Bryce Leon
Pickett

Bryce Leon Pickett, age 89 of Sheridan passed away on December 6, 2014. He was born on June 25, 1925 to the late William "Pete" Leon and Bernice (Phillips) Pickett in Sheridan, Indiana. Bryce honorably served in the US Navy during World War II. After his service to our country, he returned to Sheridan where he met and married Betty Jo Johnson. Together, they raised six children. He married his current wife Mary Grace (Stafford) on October 22, 2005. He worked for various auto parts sales departments in the area and retired from the parts department at Tom Wood Ford. After his retirement from Ford, Bryce worked part-time at Keever's Sheridan Hardware store. Bryce was a member of the Sheridan First United Methodist Church for more than fifty years. During that time he served on several boards and was treasurer of the United Methodist men's club for 30 years. He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 118 for over 30 years and was a member of the American Legion Post 0706 in Indianapolis. Bryce enjoyed gardening, completing jig saw puzzles, carpentry, and spending time with family and friends. Bryce is survived by his wife Mary Grace, children Cheryl (Ron) Dennison of Noblesville; Gordon (Jackie) Pickett of Sheridan; Richard (Connie) Pickett of Charlotte, NC; Paula Arbuckle of Arizona; Jeannine (Charles) Sample of Sheridan; and Brad Pickett of Frankfort. Mary Grace's children Jane Arnold of Lafayette; Anita (Jerry) Hobson of Sheridan; and Phil (Anita) Holmes of Fishers. He was a grandfather of fifteen, step-grandfather of eight, great-grandfather of sixteen and step great-grandfather of eight. He is also survived by his siblings Jim (Donna) Pickett, Dick (Arnola) Pickett, Ruth (Bud) Sanders, his Aunt Margaret "Peg" (Phillips) Cooper and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Jo (Johnson) Pickett, a grandson Joseph Alan Pickett, a brother Donald Pickett, and a brother-in-law John Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 11, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Sheridan First United Methodist Church located at 207 E. 2 nd Street. Visitation will be on Wednesday December 10, 2014 from 4-8 PM at Sheridan First United Methodist Church. Pastor Carol Fritz will be officiating. Burial will follow at Crownview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sheridan First United Methodist Church or Sheridan Boy Scout Troop 118. Online condolences may be made at fisherfunerals.com.
