Elizabeth Burton nee: Arthur, 86, of Sheridan, died Monday, January 27, 2014. She was born in Hamilton County, August 7, 1927, the daughter of the late Arley and Ruby Fesmire Arthur. She graduated from Sheridan High School Class of 1946. She married Phil Clayton Burton on July 27, 1947. He preceded her in death.
She was a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church, Sheridan, a 54-year member of Order of Eastern Star #226 and served as Worthy Matron 1972-1973, Daughters of American Revolution (DAR), North Adams Home Economics Club - president and secretary, Hamilton County Extension Homemakers - recorder, Hamilton County Handicraft Club - vice-president and committee member, Sheridan High School OK CLUB and Sunshine Society.
Elizabeth worked for United Feed and Biddle's for 6 years preparing and serving meals. She volunteered as a den mother, Girl Scout leader, 4-H Sponsor, Sunday school and Bible school teacher, and served as Guardian for Job's Daughter Bethel #34. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crafting, sewing, gardening, flower arranging and participating in the County and State Fairs, where she received numerous honors.
During her life, Elizabeth cherished the time she spend traveling with her family. She especially enjoyed her trips to Costa Rica, Connecticut, Florida, Colorado, the New York World's Fair, Grand Ole Opry, Great Smokey Mountains, and sharing her granddaughter's wedding cruise with her late husband.
She is survived by siblings, Marietta Pesel and Joan Perkins of Indianapolis, Carol Henderson and James Arthur of Westfield, and Carl Arthur of San Jose, Costa Rica; sons, Mike, Carl and Tim (Rosey) of Sheridan; daughters, Mary Carney (Blain) of North Vernon, In., and JoEtta Heck (John) of Windsor, Colorado; grandchildren, Stephen Gay of Atlanta, Georgia, Deborah Gay Godfrey (John) of Lewis Center, Ohio, Amanda Burton of Nashville, Tennessee, Andy Burton of Noblesville, Indiana, Rachel Heck Mowrer (Mitch) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Lauren Heck of Fort Collins, Colorado; and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Ann Gay (Daniel) of Tolland, Ct.
A life celebration will be held on March 1, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Sheridan, IN at 11:00 am, where friends and family may gather from 10:00 am till time of services. Inurnment will take place at 2:00 pm at Summit Lawn Cemetery, Westfield, IN. Fisher Family Funeral Services has been entrusted will the arrangements.
