Eugene "Gene" B. Pickett, 87, died February 6, 2011 at his Sheridan Home.
He was born on November 8, 1923 to Eber and Eula (Plew) Pickett. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Betty Jean (Beard) Pickett; children Ruth Ann Hines(John), Eula Pickett-Walker, and Eric B. Pickett (Teresa); grandchildren Jason Hines, Jennifer Groce, Ashley Walker-Sharp, Erica Walker, Jillian Pickett and Brandon Pickett; four great-grandchildren ; sister, Marilyn Pickett-Smoot. Gene was a veteran in the U.S. Army serving in the 475th Infantry (Merrill's Marauders) in China, Burma, and India Theater during WW II. Then he was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in battle. Gene became a millwright at Western Electric for 22 years. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Noel and Donald Pickett. Gene and Betty is members of the Sheridan Six Points Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed farming, gardening, restoring old tractors, and spending time with family. He was a friend to many and devoted his life to helping other. Funeral service will be held on Friday February 11, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Sheridan Six Points Wesleyan Church with The Rev. Steve Martin officiating; burial to follow at Crownview Cemetery. Calling will be held on Thursday February 10, 2010 from 6-8 pm and again on Friday February 11, 2011 from 11:00 am till time of services.
