Janet Sue (VanMeter) Butcher, passed away on September 19, 2026, with her family at her side. She was born on September 13, 1940, in Boone County, Indiana.

Janet was a 1958 graduate of Sheridan High School. She devoted herself to her family as a homemaker while raising her children and later worked at Menard’s for 10 years. Through every season of her life, she was known for the way she smiled all the time and for her generous, loving, caring, joyful, and outgoing spirit. She never met a stranger, was a true friend to many, and remained faithful to her Lord and Savior.

Among Janet’s greatest joys were her husband and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was at the heart of her life, and those who knew her will remember the warmth, kindness, and steady love she shared so freely.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Neil Butcher; her daughters, Terra (Larry) Pickett and Lisa (Joe) Godby; her son, Gary (Mary) Butcher; and her grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Johnson, Stephanie (Ryan) Couchman, Ben (Kylie) Pickett, Harrison (Kari) Godby, Heston Godby, Amber Butcher (Carlos Jimenez Becerril), Brandon Butcher, Austin Cantrell, and Anessa Cantrell. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Judy VanMeter. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and her love for her family was one of the defining blessings of her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clayton LaVon VanMeter; her mother, Mildred (Merrill) VanMeter, and her brother, Dale VanMeter.

Janet will be remembered with deep love and gratitude by all who were blessed to know her. Her life was marked by devotion to family, friendship to others, and a joyful faith that guided her days. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved so well.
