John Dale Spear

John Dale Spear passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. He was born April 8, 1948, a son of the late Harold and Opal (Brown) Spear.

John graduated with the class of 1967 from Lebanon High School, where he played football. He was also a member of the track team, where he held a shot put record for many years. He attended Indiana State University for one summer session before deciding to make a career in radio broadcasting. He was an announcer for several radio stations in the area and especially loved broadcasting football games. He also worked at various sales jobs throughout his life.

John married Bonnie (Dickerson) LaClave and they later divorced. He was devoted to his children, spending many summers coaching Little League and attending games, school programs and performances.

John is survived by his children Michael Spear of Westfield and Katie (Thomas) Garvin of Lebanon, and a brother Edgar (Darlene) Spear of Sheridan, plus several grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, David Spear, and brother Preston Spear and sister Patricia Parsons.

Arrangements are being handled through Fisher Funeral Home in Sheridan, IN.
