Marilyn King passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Wednesday, July 22 at Homewood Health Campus. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 8,1934 to her loving parents, John and Marie (Hinshaw) King. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1953, participating in four years of band and orchestra. Then she started her career at Indiana Bell until retiring in 1992. She was a member of Christian Liberty Church, Telephone Pioneers of America, and Janus Developmental Guild. Marilyn left a memorable mark on her community through her passion for service, and her deep love for her family and companions—both human and four-legged.

Marilyn was a trailblazer in her professional life, spending forty plus years as a dedicated manager for Indiana Bell (AT & T). Known for her sharp intellect, and leadership, earning the deep respect of her colleagues and peers.

Marilyn and Connie Hunt together owned and operated Mar-Con Kennels, where they raised and showed St. Bernards. Together, they earned countless medals and awards during their years of showing.

But Marilyn’s true legacy laid in her generosity, including raising her adopted niece, Jane Pagett, alongside Connie Hunt for many years. Jane participated in several Special Olympics events. Marilyn’s heart for service shone brightest through her work with the Special Olympics, where she volunteered countless hours as a coach and mentor, including events Jane participated in. She believed in the potential of every athlete, bringing encouragement and joy to them.

Marilyn’s compassion knew no bounds, especially when it came to animals in need. Throughout her lifetime, she opened her heart and home to countless shelter animals, adopting and caring for many rescued dogs and cats even including a wounded racoon, Varmint.

While Marilyn wore many hats—manager, coach, and rescuer—her favorite title was undoubtedly "Grandma." She cherished every moment spent with her beloved adoptive grandchildren: Mackenzie Padgett, Keegan Padgett, Hunter King, Kira King, Ashley Parker & Alisha Boyland. She supported them in their own endeavors, such as 4-H events and sports.

When she had some free time, she enjoyed watching several different sports teams.

She was preceded in death by her parents John & Marie King, brother Kenneth King, and adopted sister Esther Padgett. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews: Blaine, Amy Boyland, Lance, Juanita Padgett, & Garry, Holly King.

The family wants to thank Paradigm hospice services for taking such great care of Marilyn.

Services will be held at Fisher Family Funeral Services Funeral Home located at 508 E. 6th St. Sheridan. on Monday July 27, 2026, at 1:00 pm; where family and friends are invited to gather from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery.
