Obituary

Nancy (Burton) Gay of Tolland, CT, formerly of Sheridan, IN, born May 12, 1950, returned to Jesus on February 17, 2012. She is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years Daniel; son, Stephen Gay and Cynthia Jones of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Debbie and son in-law John Godfrey and two grandsons, Drew and Jay of Columbus OH. Nancy was predeceased by her father, Phil C. Burton of Sheridan IN. Also mourning Nancy''s loss is her mother, Elizabeth Burton and brothers, Michael and Carl of Sheridan, IN; two sisters, Mary Carney and husband Blain of North Vernon, IN and JoEtta Heck and husband John of Windsor, CO; a brother, Tim Burton and wife Rosey of Sheridan IN. Those who will also greatly miss Nancy are Mike and Eileen Gay of Tolland, Don and Pat Gay of Clearwater, FL and all of her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and wonderful friends. Nancy was an active member of the Vernon Methodist Church, a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, and volunteer of Rockville General Hospital and the Vernon Exchange Club. Nancy beat breast cancer in 1990 and was diagnosed with Parkinson''s disease in 2000. Our family would like to thank the caring staff at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center in East Hartford for their kindness and professionalism. Nancy''s stay at Riverside was especially brightened by the care provided by Marlene Holman. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society , or the Parkinson''s Disease Foundation. Memorial calling hours will be Monday (February 20) 4-8 p.m. at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road in Vernon. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday 10 a.m. at the Vernon United Methodist Church, 410 Hartford Turnpike. Burial will be private. A Celebration of Life will also be held in Sheridan, IN at the First United Methodist Church, 207 E. Second Street, Sheridan on Saturday, February 25th. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:30 a.m. and Celebration Service by Pastor Carol Fritz will begin at 11:00 a.m. As Nancy never wore black, her family kindly requests that in her honor guests please wear bright, fun colors.
