Raymond Earl Roberts, 87, of Indiana, passed away on September 14, 2026, in Lebanon, Indiana, with his family at his side. He was born on July 31, 1939, in Donalsonville, Georgia, and will be remembered as a happy-go-lucky, outgoing man who never met a stranger. A natural storyteller who loved his family deeply, Raymond lived a life centered on hard work, devotion, and the joy of sharing time with those he loved.

Raymond built a long and respected career with Marsh, where he worked for 35 years. Beginning as a produce manager, he worked his way up to become a Produce Specialist, overseeing produce departments in more than 30 stores across the state of Indiana. He took great pride in his work and spoke often about how much Marsh meant to him, gladly telling others what a wonderful place it was to work.

Family was at the heart of Raymond’s life, and among his proudest accomplishments were marrying his wife, Sue, and raising their family together. He was proud of his family in every way, and that pride showed in the love, attention, and enthusiasm he brought to their lives.

Raymond enjoyed many interests that filled his days with energy and fun. He was a devoted fan of Georgia and IU sports, and he especially loved watching games on television. During college football bowl season, it was not unusual for him to have two televisions going in the living room at once so he could keep up with multiple games. He was especially proud of the IU Hoosiers’ National Championship last year. He also enjoyed NASCAR, IndyCar, fishing, tinkering, and keeping things clean and organized. Music brought him happiness as well, especially country and gospel music, with a special fondness for the Gaithers.

Some of the memories his family treasures most include go-cart races, camping memories, and fishing stories that will continue to be told for years to come. Raymond had a permanent camping site at Old Mill Run Campground in Thorntown beginning in 1985, and he loved being part of the life and activity there. Even into his later years, he enjoyed joining in the fun. His family especially smiled in remembering that when a group at the campground started “No Shirt Sundays,” Raymond joined right in, bringing laughter and delight to those around him. His son Scott also shared cherished memories, including the time their dog Smokey stole Raymond’s Pop-Tarts while he was outside warming up his car, and another night when someone entered their hotel room unexpectedly and Raymond shouted “Hey!” to send them right back out. Those stories, like so many others, reflect his presence, his humor, and the unforgettable way he moved through life.

Raymond is survived by his children: sons Randy W. Roberts and his wife Jane of Mooresville, Raymond Scott Roberts and his wife Heather of Sheridan, and Brian Keith Roberts and his wife Jenny of Sheridan; and daughters Sandra K. Roberts of Sheridan and Janet Sue Roberts of Thorntown. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Christopher Phillips, Rafael Esmundo and his wife Kelsie, Rachel Thomas and her husband Brandon, Michael “Alex” Noonan and his wife Sarah, Emily Hale and her husband Bryce, Jacob Roberts, Megan Conn, Drew Roberts, Evan Roberts, and Levi Crouch. His legacy continues as well through his great-grandchildren, Cooper Hale, Dawson Hale, Finn Phillips, Hadley Phillips, Tripp Phillips, Marley Phillips, Luke Roberts, Marcus Roberts, Julius Roberts, Phoebe Esmundo, Phoenix Esmundo, and Braxton Thomas, Berkley Thomas, and by his sister, Mary Alice Morris, along with several nieces and nephews. He leaves them the gift of many stories, warm memories, and the example of a man who loved being surrounded by family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Sue Roberts; his parents, John B. Roberts and Jessie Edna Roberts; his grandson, Steven Ray Roberts; his brother, William Ralph Roberts; his sisters, Betty Ann Dickerson and an infant sister.

Visitation will be held on September 21, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at The Bible Church of Sheridan, 1478 State Rte 38, Sheridan, Indiana 46069. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will take place at 3:30 p.m. at Crown View Cemetery, 4056 West State Road 38, Sheridan, Indiana 46069.

Raymond Earl Roberts will be remembered for his love of family, his strong work ethic, his easy way with people, and the happiness he brought wherever he went. His life was full of stories, laughter, and love, and his memory will be held close by all who knew him.
