Richard E. McDivitt

June 23, 1942 - August 4, 2026

Richard E. “Dick” McDivitt of Noblesville, IN passed away on August 4, 2026, at Harbour Manor in Noblesville following a severe stroke.

Dick is predeceased by his father and mother, Ellsworth and Cleo McDivitt, and his sister, Caroline Craig.

Dick is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janet (Gabbard) McDivitt. They were married on December 24, 1960, in Harrisburg, Indiana. Dick is also survived by their three children, Michael (Lori) McDivitt, David (Aileen) McDivitt, and Susan (Brian) Zepp; thirteen grandchildren, Matthew (Elizabeth) McDivitt, Sarah McDivitt, Hannah McDivitt, Adam (Nicole) McDivitt, Elizabeth McDivitt, Ruth McDivitt, Joy McDivitt, Tiernan McDivitt, Ashtin (Seth) O’Blenis, Ella McDivitt, Emily Zepp, Maddie Zepp, and Reagan Zepp; and five great-grandchildren.

Richard graduated from Fayette Central High School in 1960, then served in the United States Army from 1960-1963. He had a career at Beneficial Finance then later worked for Flanner & Buchanan. In his retirement, Dick worked as a funeral assistant for Fisher Family Funeral Services, he also worked as a host at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum for eleven years, where he also attended 59 Indy 500s over the course of his life. He passed down his passion for the Indy 500 to his children and grandchildren. His love for the race will continue to live on every May and should be celebrated with a piece of blueberry coffee cake and a hardboiled egg with tabasco.

Dick was an active member of his community. He spent time coaching youth sports, keeping stats for Westfield High School football, and attending a plethora of Oak Hill High School athletic events. He was a longtime member of Carmel Friends Church as well as a member of the American Legion.

He enjoyed yearly trips to Florida with his wife, spending time with his grandchildren, mowing the lawn, and watching college football. Dick never met a stranger, only distant cousins and old friends. He was extremely frugal, except when it was time to send the Schwan Man to deliver ice cream to his grandchildren.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be remembered for his love of doughnuts and the Hoosiers, his kind heart, and his faithfulness to his family and God.

Calling will be held on Friday August 14, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Carmel Friends Church located at 651 W. Main St. Carmel, Indiana 46032. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 15, 2026, at 11:00 am at Carmel Friends Church, burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Park.
