Jan 6, 1946 — Aug 1, 2026
Sheridan, Indiana
Ruth Ann Hammack, lovingly known by her family and friends as Ruth Ann, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, in Sheridan, Indiana, at the age of 80. Born on January 6, 1946, in Lebanon, Indiana, Ruth Ann spent a lifetime devoted to her family, friends, and the community she cherished.
Ruth Ann was the proud daughter of William and Bonnie (Jones) Bray, and grew up surrounded by a close-knit family. Though preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brothers Stanley, Ronald, William, and Michael Bray, Ruth Ann’s heart was always full with the love she gave and received.
She is survived by her beloved sons, Steven (Kris) Martin and David Martin, who will forever remember her unwavering support and kindness. Ruth Ann’s greatest joy in life came from her grandchildren: David James (Tonya Adkins) Martin, Mathew (Mattie) Page, Shelby (Tyler) Capper, Kylie Martin, Jordan Martin, and Reiss Martin. As a grandmother, she was especially loving, often expressing how much her grandchildren meant to her, and taking every opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and share in their lives.
Ruth Ann is also survived by her dear sisters, Doris Saulmon, Karla Bougher, and Sherry Kirkwood, whose bonds with Ruth Ann were enduring and brought her great comfort and joy throughout her life.
Ruth Ann’s career was marked by her dedicated service at the Sheridan Nursing Home, where she cared deeply for the residents. Her compassionate nature was evident in her professional life as she supported and uplifted those around her, always offering help with a fiery spirit and genuine warmth.
Ruth Ann had a love for gardening and collecting jewelry, interests that allowed her to connect with nature and appreciate the simple pleasures in life. She was known for having never met a stranger, always extending a hand of friendship and help to anyone in need. This openness and generosity left a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.
Among her many milestones, moving to Florida brought her great happiness and a sense of rejuvenation. Still, at the core of her heart were her family and grandchildren, whom she held as her proudest accomplishments.
