Tom worked as a draftsman at Firestone in the air ride spring division, it was there where he met the love of his life Jane.
Tom's real passion was designing and overseeing the construction of buildings. He worked as a project manager and some of the buildings, he not only over seen the construction of them, but he also helped with the design. Over the years Tom was involved with the construction of the South Bend Jail, the Lowes Theaters and several motels along with other projects. When Tom retired has a project manager it didn't last very long with all his experience in construction, he decided he would serve his community and took a job with the Town of Sheridan as there building inspector. Over the next 17 years Tom assisted the council in updating and changing building and zoning ordinances.
When Tom wasn't working, he could be found in his garden. He took a lot of pride growing his vegetables; he grew some of the biggest tomatoes. He also had pigs, goats, chickens, and ducks. He was proud of the fact that he grew his own vegetables and raised his own meat and eggs.
Tom was a talented woodworker, and he could build anything out of wood, it was something he passed on to his sons.
Tom never knew a stranger; he would talk to anyone, and people would say after talking to him for the first time they felt as though they knew him for years, he would do anything he could for anyone.
Tom will be greatly missed by his family and friends, he leaves behind his three children Scott Cain, Mitch (Nancy) Cain, and Marylee (Mark) Hagler. He was a loving grandfather to Nicole (Ryan) Cummings, Matthew Hagler, Morgan (Krystal) Hagler, Mason Hagler, Wade Cain, Kayla (Kyle) Kinnaman, Cody Cain, Alex (Rachel) Cain, and Molly (Kallen) Moon.
